Proud to serve the Galway community!

Galway is the name of both a town and a village in New York’s Saratoga County. Galway the town covers about 45 square miles, and has a population of about 3,500. Galway the village only covers about one-third of one square mile, and has just over 200 inhabitants. The first settlers in the area arrived in 1774, building their homes just south of Galway Village. These settlers consisted of seven Scottish families, and they named this area after their hometown of Galloway. The town was originally established in 1792 as New Galloway, although the spelling was altered and the “New” dropped at some later date, probably prior to the incorporation of the Village of Galway in 1838.

Today Galway remembers its history with an active Preservation Society that meets monthly at the Galway Public Library and also sponsors a display at the Galway Town Hall. The area also has a thriving tourist industry, as the 564-acre Galway Lake on the west side of town attracts visitors to its private lakefront resort cottages to enjoy sailing, fishing and swimming throughout the summer and on into the cool, pleasant fall. The Galway Golf Club, a nine-hole “executive course”, is open year-round. Those hardy golfers willing to brave sub-zero temperatures from December through January are advised to use colored balls, however, as there is likely to be quite a bit of snow on the ground.
